In 1997, he graduated from Northern Illinois University having a Masters degree in performance and directing.
In 2002, Sutter began his career in television which later evolved into a very successful and profitable one. At first Kurt worked as a screenwriter for the television series “The Shield” and only tried other positions after some years, including as producer of the same series. In 2007, he also made his directorial debut staging of an episode of the previously mentioned series. In addition to this, he also landed a support role in the same television series.
Since 2008 he has devoted himself primarily to the crime drama television series “Sons of Anarchy” (2008 – 2014). He is the creator of the series, and directed six episodes. In the series, he played the imprisoned and nearly blind gang member Otto who was active in 13 episodes. In 2012, he worked in the documentary series “Outlaw Empires”, involved as executive producer, a series which focuses on the lives of American outlaws. In 2015, the historical fiction drama series “The Bastard Executioner” was started on FX; Kurt Sutter is the creator, executive producer as well as an actor playing in a supporting role.
