Billy Dee Williams is an American actor, singer, and writer. He is best known for his role as Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars franchise. He has also appeared in films such as Brian's Song, Lady Sings the Blues, and Batman. Williams was born on April 6, 1937 in New York City. He attended the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and later studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Williams began his acting career in the late 1950s, appearing in television shows such as The Phil Silvers Show and The Defenders. He made his film debut in the 1961 drama The Last Angry Man. In 1977, Williams was cast as Lando Calrissian in the science fiction classic Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. He reprised the role in 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. Williams has also appeared in numerous other films, including Brian's Song (1971), Lady Sings the Blues (1972), and Batman (1989). He has also had a successful career as a voice actor, lending his voice to characters in animated films such as The Lego Movie (2014) and The Princess and the Frog (2009).
